What a Successful BBQ Sounds Like

Jun 20, 2017 Posted in Summer No Comment

The sounds of a successful summer get together are ones that we can hear in our head long after the event has ended. An outdoor celebration should include tones of conversation and contagious laughter, cheers from game-winners, the sizzle of meat on the grill, and, of course, background music to tie it all together. Here are some of our best recommendations to help you ensure that all these necessary noises are at your next gathering:

BBQs should be a time to kick back, relax, and connect with friends and family. One of the best ways to do this is to break out a few games and initiate some (friendly) competition. Whether you like larger-than-life Jenga or Koob: The Viking Game, these outdoor party game ideas from apartment therapy have you covered. Try a few–and get ready for hilarity to ensue.

Take the guesswork out of pulling together the hottest summer hits. Spotify actually offers an “Ultimate BBQ” playlist! The lineup will keep hit after hit coming, and ensure that guests will sing, dance, and be merry all night long. Your BBQ soundtrack can, of course, vary based on your attendees’ preferences and your theme, so make sure to carefully evaluate your options. Do a google or channel search for any keywords that have inspired your event. Hosting this 4th of July? This “America-themed” patriotic playlist from POPCRUSH may be just what you need.

You don’t have to have a fancy outdoor sound system to bring music to your event. Portable speakers that connect to your phone via bluetooth (and then connect to your Spotify playlist) are more affordable and accessible than ever. It isn’t necessary to look for the loudest speakers while hosting, because guests should be able to hear each other well when they try to talk. Tuck simple, small, and portable speakers into your outdoor venue away from seating areas. They’ll provide the perfect ambiance without being too overbearing. A quick Amazon search can help you find exactly what you need to get your BBQ moving.

According to Events University, you should set up the seating for an outdoor celebration the same way that you’d set up furniture in your living room. Comfortable, circular seating arrangements will not only make it easy for your guests to talk, but it will also encourage those who might not know each other to start conversations.

Pulling together several people who don’t know each other? There’s nothing that works quite as well as a carefully thought-out icebreaker. Board games like “Catch Phrase” or “Apples to Apples” also encourage talking and interacting–and definitely bring the fun.
